Niepołomice, a town located between the Vistula River and the royal woods is one of those places that are said to have historical, nature and touristic attractions. The history of Niepołomice has been permamently connected with the Niepołomice Forest and the Royal Castle. The name Niepołomice is derived from the Polish word "niepołomny", meaning hard to break. As early as the 14th century King Casimirus the Great on the edge of forest erected a castle, which after enlargement became a royal residence described as another Wawel.
